==Plot==
The film opens with Harry Cox (Balthazar Getty) having sex in a car with his mistress, Lisa (Lydia Hearst), parked on a remote road. After Lisa exits the car, his wife Alex (Chloë Sevigny) calls him and chastises him on the phone. After he hangs up, his throat is slashed, and Lisa is also murdered outside the car by an unseen assailant.
Twelve-year-old Sam is invited to a sleepover at classmate Sofia's remote mansion in Connecticut. Driven to the house by her mom Emma (Natasha Lyonne), Sam finds herself embarrassed by her lack of wealth amongst her extremely rich and privileged classmates. Also at the sleepover are Francesca, Ava, and Georgie. Meanwhile, the girls' other classmate Cat, whom Sofia also invited, is being driven to the house by her father, Dr. White (Timothy Hutton); it is established that Cat is suffering psychological problems and has been in trouble for bullying the girls in the recent past. Alex's friend Jamie (Stella Schnabel) comes to the house, where the two talk about the house, as Alex complains about her husband. Alex then bosses and complains about her assistant Molly (Annabelle Dexter-Jones)).
The girls engage in a pretend fashion show, trying on luxurious clothes from Sofia's wardrobe and incessantly posting photos of themselves on social media with their smart phones. The Cox's house is furnished with countless pieces of expensive artwork, and Alex complains to her friend that her husband's affinity for art has grown into a status obsession. Cat arrives, and Alex allows the girls into her walk-in safe where numerous pieces of jewelry and clothing are stored. She then leaves to go into town for a twelve-step meeting, and promises to bring the girls home a pizza. While marveling at the jewelry inside the safe, the girls also find a pistol, which Cat taunts Francesca with.
As the night goes on, the girls, each consumed by their cell phones, begin to fight with one another. Cat instigates a confrontation and taunts Georgie about her weight, and Sofia forces her to leave the house. Cat storms out, hysterical, and runs into the woods where she attempts to call her father to pick her up. Cat begins tagging Georgie in a stream of cruel photos on Facebook; the girls collectively decide to lock their cell phones in the safe to avoid Cat's cyberbullying for the night, and Sofia throws the keys to the safe in the house's indoor swimming pool.
After Dr. White receives a frantic voicemail from Cat, he returns to the house and interrogates the girls about his daughter's whereabouts. They insist that she left the house and don't know where she is. He tells the girls he is going to press charges with them being charged as adults. He drives back into town where he runs into Alex, on the way to her meeting, and confronts her about Cat's disappearance. Sam goes to search for Cat in the woods, and finds Sofia's father's car parked on the road, with blood splattered across the windshield. She returns to the house panicked, but the girls don't believe her. Sofia tells Sam she must leave.
Georgie and Francesca begin to taunt Sofia about her mother's alleged affair with Dr. White, and she leaves the house. While in the woods, Sofia also stumbles upon her father's car, and finds his corpse inside. She uses his cell phone to call her mother; At her 12-step meeting she is talking with Gloria (Taryn Manning) who tells her to answer the phone and take control of what is going on. Alex answers, believing it to be her husband, and angrily yells into the phone about his cheating, hangs up, and shuts off her phone. Sofia takes a revolver from the glovebox in the car and flees back toward the house. After Dr. White runs into Alex, he then searches the woods. Meanwhile, back at the house, Sam stumbles upon Ava's dead body in the basement, and is attacked by a masked assailant, but escapes. She goes to retrieve the safe key from the pool in order to get the girls' cell phones back.
Meanwhile, Georgie is attacked and has her throat slashed; Francesca is also stabbed to death in the outdoor tennis court. Both of their deaths are streamed on the internet, and photos of their bodies posted online. Sam retrieves the key and opens the safe, but is attacked by the masked killer again, and locks herself inside. On her phone, she finds photos and video of her friends' murders posted on a social media game by Cat. Dr. White returns to the house, and in the living room find's Georgie's body. Sam tells him that Cat has killed Ava and Georgie; outside the living room window, Cat emerges from the woods, and unmasks herself. Sofia stumbles into the house at that moment, and, believing that Dr. White murdered her father, uses the revolver to shoot him to death. Witnessing her father's death, Cat runs into the woods, and Sam then tells Sofia that Cat is the one responsible for the murders.
Sam, armed with the revolver, leaves the house to get help. She encounters Cat on the road, wearing the mask, also armed with a pistol. Alex, who is driving up the road, arrives at the scene, and witnesses Cat shoot herself in the head. The film ends with a montage of photos of the murders, followed by a video uploaded by Cat before she embarked on the killings, in which she professes her revenge against the girls, and says that she will "be remembered forever."
